Against the Waves of Grain: the United States and National Numerological Expression
Essay 3: the Numerological Power of Events
Prior Essays: Introduction | Essay II
At the time of my writing this essay, Thanksgiving is on its way out: people across the United States have gathered, or are gathering, for various dinners, games, drinks, and other festivities. Considered a “family holiday” by many, Thanksgiving is a holiday that commemorates the arrival of English settlers and their subsequent interactions with First Nations. How that story is told, however, depends on who you are.
I prefer to recognize the story as told by the peoples that settlers would then go on to betray.
But Thanksgiving’s dark history is not something I really sat down to write about - more its numerological power, as the numerological power of events can have as much spiritual potency over time as the first event itself. More, depending on the place that event has in a collective’s history. Let’s get into the nitty-gritty of it.
The Gravity of a Date
As it turns out, the birthday of people and nations alike are not the only dates worth tracking. Events such as national holidays, major political shifts, wars, revolutionary movements, even album releases have a certain amount of spiritual power, more if they are observed and honored by a collective over time. The date of the original occurrence forges an energetic pattern that influences all later recurrences over time. This is especially true if the event affirms, denies, or challenges the collective narrative about itself, its people, its values, its place in the world, and its place among other collectives.
For the sake of situating a numerological day in a political or historical context, I’ve opted to call the numerological day of an event its “Event Signature.” This Event Signature can tell us much about the kinds of energies privileged and anticipated on that date, what may have been generated, the tenor of it, and likely subsequent outcomes. Event Signatures are permanent the way birthdays are permanent, but have a certain amount of fluidity in how they play out over time.
My current theory is that the Event Signature of an event will play out each year at that specific numeric frequency unless something of greater spiritual impact occurs on the anniversary of that original event, at which point all subsequent recurrences will predominantly reflect that new Event Signature. But we can get into that in a separate space.
Doing the Math
To calculate the Event Signature of an event, just calculate its numerological day. I’ll choose the first 4th of July for this segment.
Event Signature = (mm) + (dd) + (yyyy)
Event Signature = (7) + (4) + (1 + 7 + 7 + 6)
Event Signature = (7) + (4) + (3*)
Event Signature = 5
If you’re familiar with numerology and/or have checked out my archive, then you’ll understand why I say: how curious that is. Truly.

Adding it All Up
So back to Thanksgiving, the origins of which have been strongly debated for years. The practice of feasting as a religious act came with the European settlers; it not only stuck, but its staying power was such that thanksgiving feasts were staged even in the middle of wars. The US government declared Thanksgiving a national day of religious observance on October 3, 1789.
Let’s get into those numbers:
October 3, 1789
Event Signature: 11
Calendrical Collective Year: 7
National Year: 9
And while we’re at it, let’s look at the date of the first federally-declared Thanksgiving:
November 26, 1789
Event Signature: 8
Calendrical Collective Year: 7
National Year: 9
The legislative date matters almost as much as the actual Thanksgiving Day itself, for three reasons: one, the spiritual momentum leading up to George Washington’s proclamation on that date had the effect of further unifying the settler collective and adding to its spiritual strength; two, Washington’s actual declarations for what the day should be multiplied that momentum; and three, it took place during a National Year 9, which enforces the former two observations. After much testing, 9 can codify in ways that all prior numbers cannot.
So here we have this deep weaving of Thanksgiving into the national fabric, into the collective’s embraced observances, that took place while the US was writing and fighting itself further into being. That codification took place on a numerological 11 Day - the 11 lends incredible projective power, like a radio signal that reaches all corners of the collective and moves it to respond.
And then there’s the first Thanksgiving after that codification, which took place on a numerological 8 Day: a day of agreement renegotiation and review, rebalancing, etc. Other themes associated with 8 energy include some that you’re already familiar with: the law, justice, property, and power struggles. Across the settler states, people gathered as Washington decreed on that date, prepared their feasts…and prayed.
And they prayed a lot.
Because I enjoy being thorough, I will add one more date for your consideration: the date on which Abraham Lincoln established Thanksgiving as a permanent national holiday. Let’s do one more breakdown:
October 3, 1863
Event Signature: 4, formed by a 13 (a day of sealing/binding)
Calendrical Collective Year: 9
National Year: 2
We can laugh about the family dramas that we expect to play out during Thanksgiving, but the spiritual patterning generated by those settlers’ religious and spiritual activities is nothing to sniff at. Thanksgiving as a national event started with many families gathering and praying to the same divinity on the same day, around the same time, on days that happened to be some of the most spiritually-impactful times to do so. Its place in national ritual was so activating, a 19th century white New Englander managed to successfully add to the culture of it through her magazine. And during a year in which a collective unconscious can be particularly “impressionable,” the holiday was sealed right in.
No wonder people go so hard for Thanksgiving, even if they don’t pray at the start.
Conclusion
I decided to try tackling one of the more numerologically-complex national events for this essay, if only because of the timing of its publication. But you can track the lingering effects of any event occurrence simply by doing the math like above. As you trace various events in your life, that of your family, your community, etc., pay attention to how the energies of that original event show themselves in subsequent years. Try asking yourself the following:
What happened on the day of the first event occurrence?
How many elements of the event occurrence are thematic to its numerological day?
What seems to keep happening since that first event occurrence?
How many people were involved? How do they tell the story of the first event?
How difficult to does it feel to “depart” from the energy of this recurrent event? How do people respond to such attempts?
As we approach another Collective Year 9 and another National Year 2 - ahem - being able to understand these hidden spiritual undercurrents may prove extraordinarily useful. Although you may well have ceased being mystified by the events and patterns of this country, it still helps to add another layer of understanding as to why things are the way that we are. There may still be surprises, but far fewer than you think.
